Series production by 3D printingSeries production by 3D printing: parts when you need them, no moulds.
3D printing isn't just for prototypes: Artifex also uses it for series production, from small runs to large volumes when it pays off for you. No mould to pay for, a design you can change even during production and parts printed only when they are needed: less money tied up in stock and more freedom to improve the product.
01
Why produce by 3D printing
- No moulds: start straight away, without an upfront investment of thousands of euros.
- The product improves while you sell it: change the file, not the mould.
- Print when needed, in the quantities needed: little stock and no unsold parts.
- Every part can be different: personalisation, numbering, colour and material variants.
- Shapes moulding can't make, lighter parts and fewer components to assemble.
02
On-demand production
Your part's file stays on record: when you need more parts, you order them and they are produced. It's the right approach for spare parts, accessories, products sold online and series that change often, without buying thousands of parts in advance.
03
From small runs to large volumes
Start with a few dozen parts and grow with demand. Large productions are possible too, planned together, as long as 3D printing pays off for both of us compared with injection moulding. When it no longer does, I'll tell you: the 3D printing vs injection moulding guide explains how to tell.
04
A part designed for production
A part designed for 3D printing costs less and lasts longer: orientation, wall thickness, joints and materials are decided in the design. If your part was designed for moulding, I adapt it. See product design and prototypes and the materials guide, with up to 7 materials in the same part.
05
Consistent quality
Same settings, same material, every batch checked: the hundredth part is identical to the first. Finishing, inserts, assembly and packaging included when needed.
FAQ
How many parts can I order?
From a few parts to large volumes: quantities are planned together, based on timing and cost.
Can I change the part after the first batches?
Yes, it's one of the main advantages: the file is updated and the next batches include the change, without scrapping a mould.
Do I have to buy all the parts at once?
No. The model stays on file and parts are produced when you order them; for regular deliveries a small buffer stock can be planned.
When should I switch to injection moulding?
When quantities are very high, the part is simple and the design is final. We assess it together on your numbers.
